Twitter will be implementing some changes to make the social media site safer for users. The company is going to address the increasing incidents of harassment on the platform.
Ed Ho, vice president of engineering at Twitter has posted a series of tweets informing everyone about their plans. The social networking service admits that it has done little to prevent harassment but this year, the company will be more dedicated to listening to its users.
In the coming days, Twitter is expected to roll out fixes that will prevent offenders from creating new accounts. This will stop wrongdoers from harassing more people. New features will also be released this year for the protection of the users.
Ho said that they will now focus on improving user interaction. He tweeted, “Making Twitter a safer place is our primary focus and we are now moving with more urgency than ever.”

Engaging in conversations is allowed on Twitter but the constant abuse discourages many from participating in discussions. Harassment brings fear to many users but it is about to end.
“We’re approaching safety with a sense of urgency. As such, we will be rolling out a number of product changes in the coming days and weeks – some will be immediately visible, while others will be more targeted to specific scenarios. We will update you along the way and continue to test, learn and iterate on these changes to evaluate their effectiveness. You can expect to see meaningful progress in this area,” a spokesperson informed VentureBeat.
